Earthquake Again?~!

But this time it’s *predicted*

These rumors has been spreading through the Internet that there will be an extreme earthquake here in the Philippines.

July 18, 2008 - Philippines will get 8.1 earthquake, thousands of people will die.

PLS. LET US BE ALERT AND MARK THIS DATE JULY 18, 2008, FRIDAY.

LET’S BE PREPARED, AND LET US ALL PRAY THAT THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN TO US.

IF POSSIBLE: PLS. DON’T GO TO WORK ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH OFFICE LOCATED IN HIGH PLACES, BUILDINGS, CONDOS AND MALLS.

NOTHING TO LOSE IN THIS KIND OF REMINDER.

MAYBE, THIS IS GOD’S WAY TO SAVE YOU, YOUR FAMILY , YOUR FRIENDS AND YOUR OFFICEMATES OR LESSEN CASUALTIES.

LET’S ALL PRAY AND MARK THIS DATE.

PLS. FORWARD TO ALL YOUR CONTACT LIST TO WARN YOUR RELATIVES, FRIENDS AND YOUR LOVED ONES AND ALL PEOPLE LIVING IN THE PHILIPPINES .

AGAIN: REMEMBER JULY 18, 2008 – HAVE AN ALARM ON THIS DATE.

Here’s a list on why I’m not convinced about this.

• It lacks the source of the information
• thousands of people will die — hellur~ this is not 9-11, nor Hurricane Katrina!
• Please don’t go to work … … Nothing to lose in this kind of reminder — hellur again~ there’s a possibility to lose the job for not working, there’s a possibility to lose your job because of the economy too (imagine a day where everyone did not work, as in EVERYONE)
• MAYBE, THIS IS GOD’S WAY TO SAVE YOU – I don’t believe that God spreads rumors.
• PLS. FORWARD TO … ALL PEOPLE LIVING IN THE PHILIPPINES — this tells me that this message did not originate in the Philippines. And that there is a high probability that the person (or group) where this “message” (”joke”) came from takes advantage of the Filipino’s culture of weaknesses in danger and disasters.

And I think that this should not be in the Philippines only. A magnitude of 8.1 will send Tsunamis flying to Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Micronesia, Hong Kong, and Macau (China)…
And above all, I don’t think earthquake can be predicted to a precise point such as a date (July 18, 2008)

And I don’t believe that thousands of people will die just because of THAT earthquake. Because there are standard operating procedures set during disasters such as earthquakes. And it will not take you more than an hour to get to the ground floor. If ever this warning may pertain to buildings collapsing… buildings are new and I believe that they engineered to withstand earthquakes around the Pacific Ring of Fire
